The Leacock Club

The Leacock Club is a community service club that was established in 1992, to give busy people a way to contribute to civil society. Canadian humourist and academic Stephen Leacock believed in having fun, without harm. It was the illustrious Leacock who wrote “I’m a great believer in luck, and I find that the harder I work, the more I have of it.”

It’s a club for successful people who recognize their responsibility to give back, and in the true honour of its namesake, endeavors to add an element of wit, camaraderie and laughter to all of its efforts to do so. Membership has its benefits, as Leacock members automatically receive invitations to the annual Leacock Debate, held every February, and the Annual Leacock Golf Tournament, Dinner & Auction, held every September.

Membership revenues are directed to and disbursed by the Stephen Leacock Foundation for Children, a registered charity and public foundation established by the club in the same year. Members are approached only once per year to make a minimum $1,000 annual donation to the Foundation. Membership dues, other donations and proceeds from special events are pooled into one fund. The disbursement of these funds is carefully monitored by a Board of Directors, comprised of dedicated members of the Leacock Club.

Since its inception in 1992, the Leacock Foundation has donated more than $6 million to children’s causes. Since 2002 however, we have exclusively supported our innovative “Triangle of Hope” program, which provides better educational opportunities for disadvantaged and at-risk children.
