Independent School Programs at a Glance

• Volunteerism and Program Support: Students devote hundreds of hours of volunteer time to planning, executing and participating in programs, taking time away from their academic responsibilities to make a difference in their immediate community and beyond. Local public high students and university students are also encouraged to volunteer.

• Facilities and Staff Support: In many cases, our independent school partners have staff dedicated to developing community and global outreach programs for staff and students. These individuals devote many hours coordinating special efforts to support their school partners within the Triangle of Hope Program. School partners also provide access to their well-resourced facilities.

• Student and Staff Travel and Exchanges: Members from each of our schools have made the trek to South Africa to visit the GAP School. Canadian teachers and students have returned to Africa on their own time and at their own expense during their summer vacation, or sabbatical leaves, to pursue longer, volunteer teaching assignments, ranging from six weeks to six months in duration.

• Associated Supporters: We benefit from the support of Kingsway College School (KCS), a K-8 independent school located in Toronto’s west end. KCS’s staff, parents, students and alumni support the Leacock Foundation through fundraising and volunteerism, as some of their grads become involved with our Triangle of Hope program during their high school or University years.
